Before we take fish oil, we have to understand that most products are made from cold-water fishes. Now, there are some fish oil pills that are bringing up to 50% EPA and 1.5 ratio of DHA. There are even some that can provide higher.
The fish oil dosage might be different between one and another based on the type and manufacturer. Natural fishes that have not been processed usually contain 30% EPA and DHA with 1.5 in ratio. One gram of fish oil capsule brings 180 milligrams of EPA and 120 milligrams of DHA. There is a more concentrated fish oil form, which is semi-synthetic ethyl ester product containing up to 85% EPA and DHA. One gram of such pill usually contains 490 milligrams of EPA ethyl ester and DHA ethyl ester in 350 milligrams. There are also enteric coated DHA and EPA which is produced as the free fatty acids. Such products are more concentrated in DHA and EPA.
